6-piece band

Big Rock & Blues band

REDband consists of top-class professional musicians who’ve played together in the resort over many years. More recently they've been involved in various rock musicals written by Margaret O’Hanlon and produced by Whirlwind Productions, including California Dreamin’, London Calling, 27 and Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide. Now they’ve brought that experience to bear in REDband – which performs as anything from a duo to a seven-piece for events and corporate functions. REDband lead vocalists Margaret O’Hanlon and Charlotte Graf are joined by Ivan Hamilton on drums and vocals, Mark Wilson on keyboards and BV's, Matt Anthony on lead guitar, harmonica and vocals, and Nigel Hirst plays saxophone, rhythm guitar and vocals and Luke Belcher on Bass Guitar and BV's. Their huge repertoire is focused on 60s, 70s and 80s rock and blues music, with some contemporary artists such as Amy Winehouse, Gin Wigmore and Adele thrown into the mix.

Mark Wilson

Mark is unique. He cannot be pigeonholed. To describe him as a classical pianist, a jazz keyboard player, a church organist, a celtic stylist - all these would be correct. He plays jazz with Dale Gold (double bass) and with his own band 'With a Twist', dance music with 'The Master Blasters', the organ at St Peters church, and rock inspired tunes with REDband. He plays as a soloist, accompanist, or as part of a band. However, he is at his best when being creative, weaving his own particular magic around the melody. Tunes are twisted into new shapes, moulded into new rhythmic patterns, or re-formed around new harmonic progressions. Mark never starts these medley items with a definite plan of what to include, but he lets the music and his inspiration guide him into new and exciting pathways. RED are thrilled to have Mark on their team of talented musicians.

Nigel Hirst

Nigel is a multi instrumentalist, starting out on bass guitar then as a vocalist before moving on to include acoustic and electric guitar, flute, saxophones, piano and ukulele. Performances include concerts, festivals, nightclubs, bars, restaurants, corporate functions, busking, weddings, parties, balls, churches, schools, jam sessions, & benefits. Nigel is also a Producer of shows such as Starryeyed and Songstars, as well as a recording engineer, piano tuner and itinerant music teacher. He has recorded original music with his own bands. Nigel currently plays with Master Blasters Band, Jive Pranksters band, Lynch Mob Pink Floyd Show, Queenstown Jazz Orchestra, Queenstown Ukulele Orchestra, Pearly & the Oystermen Band, Legendary Raglan Mudsharks and more recently REDband.
